Bachelor in Theology (B.Th)

Enrolment at the Institute

• It is a first cycle theology course (Bachelor in Theology: B. Th.); duration of three years (six semesters); academic year starting from June – March; classes begin at 8.45am to 12.35pm; Thursday and Sunday holidays.

• The Institute of Theology, as a rule, is open to all Religious Congregations both men and women, Diocesan Students who are aspiring to priesthood, and the Laity.

• Jyotir Bhavan is open to all who can legally give testimony to leading a moral life and to having completed the previous studies appropriate to enrolling in the Institute.

• To enrol in this Institute of Theology, the student must have Bachelor in Philosophy or successfully completed at least two years of Philosophical studies in an approved institute. (The Philosophical programme is conducted at the Sacred Heart Philosophical College, Aluva, an Institute, also administered by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites of St. Pius X^th Manjummel Province, an affiliated Institute in the Faculty of Dharmaram Vidya Kshethram, Bengaluru. 

• The student must present testimonial letters of one’s Major Superior/ Competent authority, in the case of Laity, the Parish Priest.

• For a non-clerical candidate to be an ordinary student, it is required to have the Bachelor in Arts (BA) or equivalent degree.

• Good command of English language.

Syllabus

The whole syllabus for theology consists of 180 ECTS/Credits. One credit corresponds to 25 study hours including 15 hours of lecture and the remaining 10 hours of personal work in terms of assignments, projects, personal study, Examinations, this totaling 25 hours of work load.
